Dental hygiene and gum treatment in The Hague

Bleeding or swollen gums often indicate inflammation (gingivitis). Without treatment it can spread to the jawbone (periodontitis) and your teeth lose support. Professional cleaning and good brushing guidance keep your gums healthy.

What does hygiene & gum care involve?

Our prevention and periodontal prevention assistants remove tartar and plaque, including below the gum line. We measure the pockets around your teeth to see how healthy your gums are.

You get practical tips for home: which brush, which interdental brushes and how to reach the tricky spots at the back.

When do you need hygiene & gum care?

If your gums bleed when brushing, you have bad breath, receding gums or teeth that feel loose.

  • With bleeding gums when brushing or flossing.

  • With bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth.

  • If your gums recede or your teeth look longer.

  • With teeth that feel loose or are shifting.

  • With a lot of tartar or staining from coffee, tea or smoking.

  • With diabetes, pregnancy or braces: extra care is wise then.

How do we approach hygiene & gum care?

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Measuring the gums

We measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth and note where it bleeds.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Cleaning

We remove tartar and plaque, above and below the gum line.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Smoothing and polishing

Smooth surfaces make it harder for new plaque to stick.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Home instruction

We show which brush and interdental brushes you need and how to use them.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Re-evaluation

After a few weeks we check how the gums have healed.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Maintenance

We agree on a regular schedule, often every three to six months.

From gingivitis to periodontitis

Gum problems often start unnoticed. Acting in time prevents your teeth from becoming loose.

01

Gingivitis

Inflammation of the gums only. Fully reversible with good cleaning and brushing.

02

Periodontitis

The inflammation goes deeper and affects the bone around the teeth. Requires more intensive treatment.

03

Keep it up at home

Cleaning between your teeth daily is at least as important as brushing.

What does hygiene & gum care cost?

Dental fees in the Netherlands are set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). You receive an explanation of the costs before any treatment, and a quote for larger treatments. What your health insurer covers depends on your policy.
