Afraid of the dentist? Calm care in The Hague

If you find visiting the dentist nerve-racking, you are welcome to simply meet us first. We explain every step beforehand and agree on a stop signal. That way you stay in control.

What does dental anxiety involve?

In a first conversation, you tell us what worries you. Then we make a plan in small steps, starting with what feels least stressful for you.

We apply anaesthetic carefully and only when you're ready. You can always ask to pause for a moment.

When do you need dental anxiety?

Perhaps you haven't dared to go for a long time, or you've had a bad experience. That's fine: we don't judge and start where you are.

  • If you have stayed away from the dentist for a long time because of anxiety.

  • After a bad experience in the chair.

  • If you are afraid of pain, injections or sounds.

  • When you feel ashamed of the state of your teeth.

  • With a strong gag reflex.

  • If you want to stay in control of what happens.

How do we approach dental anxiety?

  1. 1

    Step 1

    A conversation first

Without treatment. We listen to what you find difficult.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Agreements

For example a stop signal: raise your hand and we stop immediately.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Explanation in advance

We always tell you what we are going to do before we do it.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Small steps

We start with something simple and build up calmly, at your pace.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Good anaesthesia

Where needed we numb carefully, if desired first with a numbing gel.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Evaluate together

After each appointment we discuss how it went and what the next step is.

You are not alone

Many people find the dentist stressful. There is nothing strange about that, and a lot can be done about it.

01

No judgement

However long it has been, we look ahead together.

02

Bring someone

A trusted person beside you can be very reassuring.

03

Plan wisely

Choose a time when you are not rushed, for example early in the day.

What does dental anxiety cost?

Dental fees in the Netherlands are set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). You receive an explanation of the costs before any treatment, and a quote for larger treatments. What your health insurer covers depends on your policy.
